Too Good To Stay Inside

March 13, 2010
by Meghann

Now don’t be jealous….. but, I think today’s weather in Tampa was what one might call the epitome of perfection.

IMG_0378.JPG

A high of 73, blue skies as far as the eye could see, and a big beautiful sun – I was NOT staying inside on a day like today! ;)

I am happy to report the new trail run Derek had promised to take me to this morning was worth ‘sleeping in’ for. :)

IMG_0355.JPG

The trail was just outside of Tampa and stretches to a large 28 mile loop into the wilderness, but we just ran 4.

IMG_0365.JPG

I loved how cute the map was! :)

IMG_0362.JPG

IMG_0363.JPG

This was Derek’s first trail run. I think he liked it. ;)

IMG_0359.JPG

IMG_0366.JPG

You’ll never guess where we headed next!

IMG_0382.JPG

How could we not take advantage of this perfect beach weather?

IMG_0376.JPG

This is why I live in Florida!

IMG_0379.JPG

On the way to the beach we stopped at Publix to pick up some subs and fresh fruit to enjoy by the water.

IMG_0368.JPG

I got the 6 in veggie sub on multrigrain bread with provolone cheese, spicy mustard, and all the trimmings.

IMG_0371.JPG

IMG_0373.JPG

Derek and I split a bowl of apple slices, grapes, and strawberries.

IMG_0374.JPG

After I finished lunch, I passed out the heck out. Derek claims he always knows I’m asleep when my mouth is hanging open and he said my mouth was hanging open for a good hour on that beach today. ;)

I was feeling a little snacky when I returned to the land of the living and dug into the Goldfish we brought with us.

IMG_0367.JPG IMG_0380.JPG

I started combining the handfuls of pretzels and chocolate grahams. Such a tasty combination!

IMG_0381.JPG

For dinner Derek took my to one of his favorite Greek restaurants in Tarpon Springs for some authentic Greek food and treats.

IMG_0383.JPG

We did sit down to eat until after 8:00 and by that point I was ready to eat my arm off. As soon as the server dropped the bread basket down, I immediately grabbed a piece and gobbled it up.

IMG_0384.JPG

We started with a Greek Salad that had all the traditional toppings, but also included potato salad, beets, and chickpeas.

IMG_0385.JPG

The salad was great! I loved all the extras, especially the potato salad!

Derek was raving the about the Greek Chow Mein the restaurant is famous for, but I could not get on board with it. I did steal a bite of Derek’s and though I thought it was good, I was glad I had went with my gut instinct and not ordered it.

IMG_0390.JPG

Instead I ordered the chicken platter which came with more greek salad, rice pilaf, pitas, and seasoned chicken with tomato sauce.

IMG_0388.JPG

It was good! I ate about half and gave the rest to Derek in a doggie bag so he could enjoy it for lunch at work on Monday.

I didn’t want to fill up at dinner because Derek had promised me Greek pastries for after we paid our bill!

IMG_0393.JPG

IMG_0391.JPG

I wanted it all, but managed to walk away from the counter with a piece of chocolate baklava.

IMG_0401.JPG

Derek got a chocolate kok (which we both felt embarrassed to order because we weren’t quite sure how to pronounce kok)

IMG_0400.JPG

I had a bite and it was good, but not as good as my baklava. ;)

IMG_0402.JPG

It’s couch cuddling time!

Don’t forget to set your clocks one hour ahead tonight!

Good Night!

I love that you have converted Derek to a running junkie. I mean, finding trails and all…

Jealous of your beachy weather (and access to a beach!!) It rained all day long here. Boo.

Sorry, but I can’t help but be extremely jealous of that beautiful weather, although spring is arriving here in MN too. I am just finishing spring break week and your pics make me think I should’ve gone to visit my relatives in Sarasota, FL. My favorite thing to do there is go to Publix, get a sub and fruit, and relax on the beach. I will just live vicariously through you :)

  24. March 14, 2010 8:57 am

Greek food is my favourite. I spent 5 days in Athens, Greece over Xmas and I had the best food in my whole life there. Fabulous! :)

  32. March 14, 2010 11:22 am

I giggled a little at the “kok” part :) I have a friend who is Lebanese and “kok” is her dad’s favorite apparently lol. She told me that a few years ago, but I never knew what it was until now.

  33. March 14, 2010 11:39 am

Of course soon after I LEAVE Florida it is like a bazillion degrees. Not fair, I say.

  34. March 14, 2010 11:45 am

The weather looked so perfect!! It’s been rainy and yucky here in Louisville and I’m totally ready for some sunshine! And I’ve totally been counting down the months and days until our summer vacation to the beach and your picture makes me even more anxious for it to get here!!! Glad you had a fun trail run!

  35. March 14, 2010 11:48 am

  42. March 14, 2010 1:54 pm

Meghann, I don’t think you look too skinny at all. You represent healthiness and moderation in everything and are a great role model. Obviously, by all the yummy food that was shown in this post, you ARE eating enough. :D

And I’ve got to admit I totally LOL’d at kok. ;)

  43. March 14, 2010 3:33 pm

I cannot even tell you how jealous i am that you went to the beach this weekend! It has been raining for three days straight here in NYC :( I love that you’re rocking the marathon necklace!

  44. March 14, 2010 3:51 pm

Your day looks fantastic! I love a good Publix sub at the beach! And you look fabulous in your bathing suit! Do you know of any good beginner trails in the Orlando area?

  45. March 14, 2010 4:44 pm

So I am super incredibly jealous of you!!!! ;) I really wish I lived in FL after hearing about day like that, i’d have to say. I’d kill for beach weather (and a beach to go with it haha)!

  46. March 14, 2010 5:03 pm

Would you mind sharing the name of that trail or at least which city it’s in? We’re moving to Dunedin in may so I’m stockpiling good running ideas already! You should run the Clearwater 15k on 4/10!

  49. March 14, 2010 8:51 pm

That looks like such a fun trail!

Arizona has sunny weather about 85% of the time, however we don’t have beaches like Florida! Or any beaches for that matter. >< So jealous!

Btw, all of your foodie pictures look sooooo yum!

  50. March 14, 2010 10:59 pm

So jealous of your beach trip. Right now the weather is telling me it’s going ot be 68 on Saturday… is that still too cold to throw on a bikini and get some sun?

  53. March 15, 2010 7:51 pm

Now I know you said not to be jealous but OMG I am SEETHING with jealousy over here!! ;)

What an amazingly fun day and the pictures of the beach make my heart pitter pat. I just LOVE the beach. Summer, where are you!?!?!
