Ski Bunny

December 28, 2009
by Meghann

My cheeks are wind burnt, my legs are sore, and my fingers are still recovering from a day of being numb – I guess that means I had a kick ass day of skiing today. ;)

The morning started bright and early. I woke up naturally around 5:30 am local time and couldn’t get back to sleep! It just gave me plenty of time to catch up on blogs and twitter. ;)

(My Mom got a kick out of everyone on their laptops this morning)

My Dad made a great breakfast to fuel us through a full day of skiing.

IMG_4621.JPG

Scrambled eggs

IMG_4624.JPG

whole wheat toast with strawberry jam

IMG_4626.JPG

potatoes

IMG_4627.JPG

1/2 a pear

IMG_4625.JPG

The perfect combination to keep me full through the morning.

Time for skiing!

IMG_4632.JPG

IMG_4637.JPG

I know you are jealous of how sexy Kelly and I are when we ski. lol

IMG_6101.JPG

I know, I know, skiing the week between Christmas and New Years is probably the busy time of year to ski, but it was the only time my family could get together! We happily put up with long lines with smiles. :)

IMG_6106.JPG

My cousin Jenny and her husband Andy live in Colorado Spring and made the drive to join us for a couple of days of skiing as well. They have three adorable little girls at home and told us they may be bringing them up on Saturday. I’m crossing my fingers!

IMG_6103.JPG

IMG_6102.JPG

Instead of spending $10 each on lunch, we decided to bring our own lunches and save where we could.

We purchased cups of hot water at 10 cents each

IMG_6109.JPG

And filled them with hot chocolate packets we brought with us from home

IMG_6108.JPG

IMG_6111.JPG

I shared one cup with Derek. There is something about skiing and hot chocolate that just seems the perfect fit. :)

IMG_6112.JPG

For my lunch I packed a bag of goodies

IMG_6116.JPG

Carrots, Apple, and Almond Butter with a pickle on the side

IMG_6117.JPG

I also had a couple handfuls of these tasty chips

IMG_6115.JPG

The rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying the mountain

IMG_6120.JPG

IMG_6121.JPG

Derek was a little intimated by our style of skiing and spent the afternoon conquering some greens with my Mom. But doesn’t he look so sexy in his ski gear?!?! ;)

IMG_6105.JPG

Ow! Ow!

I was starving by the time the slopes closed and immediately tore in to a Mojo bar when we reached the car.

IMG_6124.JPG

Despite the fact that I have been training for a marathon for the last 14 weeks, my legs were still incredibly sore after a full day of skiing.

The hot tub was calling my name!

IMG_4639.JPG

Nothing beats the hot tub after a day of skiing… well… except for a beer to enjoy while relaxing in the hot tub. ;)

IMG_4643.JPG

While we were hot tubbing, my Dad was preparing a wonderful dinner.

IMG_4644.JPG

Our cabin came with a outdoor grill. We took full advantage and grilled chicken in the snow. :)

IMG_4646.JPG

My family is a bit obsessed with brussel sprouts. My Sister and I had purchased two pounds of brussel sprouts and we all had to limit our serving size to make sure there was enough to go around.

IMG_4648.JPG

IMG_4649.JPG

Dessert was a serving of Mint Ice Cream and a sprinkle of trail mix.

IMG_4651.JPG

Now we are all settling around with a deck of cards. Let’s see how long i last before passing out. It’s going to be an early night!

Good Night!!

    Hi Meghann–

I was in Boulder, CO, this summer visiting my friend who lives there. While there, she exposed me to the BEST nut butter ever–it’s called Justin’s Nut Butters and the Honey Almond one is to die for! I haven’t tasted anything as good since. He makes them out of Boulder, but they sell them throughout Colorado, so keep your eyes open for it. You won’t be sorry :)

Have a fun and safe trip!

  28. December 29, 2009 10:40 am

good for you for bringing your own lunch, way cheaper!

  29. December 29, 2009 10:43 am

Skiing muscles are definitely different from running muscles. I love to ski, I just hate the first few days at the start of the season….. have to wake those muscles back up!

Looks like you all are having a great time! I definitely need to get my butt skiing soon.

  30. December 29, 2009 10:44 am

Looks like a great day Meghann!! How fun :) . I am terrible at skiing, but would really like to get better!

  31. December 29, 2009 11:14 am

  32. December 29, 2009 11:18 am

That looks like a fun day – snow, good food, family time – always a good time!

  33. December 29, 2009 11:30 am

Fabulous vacation! Seriously I am jealous of that skiing, as I have only skied on the eastern side of the country. Never the west.

  34. December 29, 2009 11:42 am

Ah. I love skiing! I’m so jealous of your ski house! Skiing all day then hot tubbing at night!? There’s really nothing better :)

And I’m with Derek on the Green Circles…haha. I stick to those too and will venture out to Blue Squares if I’m feeling adventurous!

Glad you’re having a great vacation!

  35. December 29, 2009 12:04 pm

Glad y’all are having a great time in Summit County!!!

I was curious to see if/how sore you would be from skiing. Unless you do it often, it usually makes a person sore, even if they are in awesome shape. It just uses the body in a different way, but a good way.

I hope y’all are drinking extra water, it’s so dry here compared to Florida, thrown in with the altitude.

Fat Tire is good. If you get a chance try the O’Dells Brewing company, also from the beautiful town of Ft. Collins (like Fat Tire) :)

  36. December 29, 2009 1:52 pm

Looks like such a fun day! I really want to go skiing sometime. I hear it’s a great workout, so a hot tub and beer sounds like the perfect recovery :)

You and Tina are making me want to try a Fat Tire beer (even though I much prefer wine)

  37. December 29, 2009 6:07 pm

Sounds like a great day of skiing! Wish I was there!

  38. December 29, 2009 8:45 pm

    I’m jealous!

  39. December 29, 2009 11:32 pm

ha, i dig all of you on your laptops. all so technological. i seriously don’t want people did when computers weren’t so mobile and all. sheesh.

looks like you’re having a blast skiing! despite the crazy long lines. skiing is so much fun, i’ve never been to colorado, though. i’m sure the conditions are out of this world!

  40. December 29, 2009 11:35 pm

Love the pic of all of you on your laptops! Too funny. The hot tub and beer sounds like it would be amazing after a full day of skiing (or anytime, really). Have fun!

  41. December 29, 2009 11:38 pm

Breckenridge is so fun – jealous I’m not out there!

I gotta ask though, where are the rest of your helmets?
