Some of you may have noticed I haven’t exactly been using my typical point and shoot camera lately.
For the past couple of weeks I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a new SLR and my Mom has been kind enough to let me borrow hers for as long as need be.

My Mom has a Canon EOS 20D SLR that she bought about 5 years ago. It may be a tad on the older side, but it still gets the job done.

It was fun to have the SLR in San Francisco and at the Food & Wine festival this past weekend. Playing with my Mom’s SLR has pretty much sold me on the fact that I need my own. I am currently crossing my fingers Santa has taken notice what a good girl I have been this year and hopes he leaves a shiny new Canon Rebel under the tree for me.
In the mean time I have decided to spruce my Mom’s camera up a tad by ordering a new macro lens. The new lens will make the camera more effective for my needs of close ups for food.

Maddie was happy to pose as I tested the new lens out.

Maddie is the perfect model. She just stares at me and looks adorable!!

Me likes the new lens! I still have a lot to learn about how the lens works and how my Mom’ camera works. One day at at time
Dinner was also fun to photograph and very yummy to eat.

First were the Zucchini Cakes.

Zucchini Cakes
- 1 grated zucchini
- 1/2 small onion, grated
- 1 T dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup egg whites
- 3 T ground flax seed
- S & P
Combine all the ingredients and form three small patties. Fry the patties on the stove top in a little evoo and enjoy!

Next Yuca Fries

Cut a yucca in fry shapes and bake in the oven at 420 for 20 minutes with a little S&P.

Dipped in a little ketchup & Dijon Mustard combo. Yum!

Dessert was a VitaBrownie topped with Pure Decadent Coconut Milk Chocolate Ice Cream that I just got around to opening tonight even though they sent it to me in April. Oopss…

There’s a reason I hadn’t opened it – I am just not a fan of chocolate ice cream. Its to rich (thick?) or something to me. Derek the chocolate ice cream is all yours next time you’re here!!
This afternoon I also snacked on some Cashew Nut Clusters.

I’m a little disappointed these didn’t taste more like cashew. i have concluded that cashew are my favorite nut to eat on its own.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you… for all of your votes for the Sam-e Good Mood Gig!! Please remember to keep them coming! We have until Dec. 7th to pull to the lead.

I just got a Canon Rebel Xsi about a month ago. I love it! It makes taking pictures of everything (especially food haha) sooo much more exciting!
Definitely jealous of your lense! Maybe I’ll get a fantastic one under the Christmas tree!

Maddie couldn’t be any more adorable!! I don’t think it’s just the new camera
I have to try your zucchini cakes recipe — I tried to make them once by just throwing shredded zucchini and eggs together and they just completely fell apart in the pan…it still made for a tasty hash, though!

Wow, those pictures of Maddie are fantastic! You should get some framed.
I was telling my dad today about wanting a nice SLR camera and deciding to buy one next year — he totally didn’t understand why I’d “waste” so much money on a camera. Blargh!

I have two zucchinis in my fridge. I’m totally making your cakes. Yum.
I don’t like chocolate ice cream either. Everyone thinks I’m weird!

Shooting with an SLR is so much fun, too.

Great shots of Maddie, she is truly the perfect model! I love me some yuca fries. I am always too lazy to make them since they are a pain to peel and slice up. Your pictures are convincing me that it’s totally worth the work though.

Those zucchini cakes look delicious!!! I’ll definitely be trying your recipe – I’ve been trying for years to make sweet potato pancakes/fritters along the same lines as this, so maybe I’ll try to adapt this recipe to work for sweet potatoes??
Maddie is a beautiful model!

That camera takes beautiful pictures – looks like you have the new lens all figured out! I can really see the difference between this camera and a point-and-shoot.

Your pictures are looking good! However, a 50mm lens is not a macro lens…. just FYI

Mmm the zuchinni cakes looked really good! definitely saving the recipe
The 50mm lens is awesome. I have a Canon 40D and the 50mm stays on it the majority of the time.
