Summer is no good for the DVR. I used to come home to a happy DVR filled with lots of great shows to choose from to watch. But, now I barely have enough to keep me entertained as I make dinner.
Right now I am settling with live TV. I feel so dirty.
Has anyone ever watched an episode of The Secret Lives of the American Teenager? I’m about 10 minutes into an episode and already I’m ready to break through the TV and slap some acting abilities into these kids. I also think I could write a more believable and relatable story line then this. It reminds me of the later episodes of 7th Heaven when the show started going down hill. It’s bad. Very bad.
Anyone have any good recommendations of new shows out there that will make my DVR happy again?
Anyways… I will stop complaining about my couch potato habits. Back to food and exercise now.
I have a few new foods to discuss.
The first being the Amazing Grass Green Superfood Energy Bar I had as my midafternoon snack.

After seeing this bar around some of my favorite blogs I was looking forward to trying it.

Upon first bite I was instantly reminded of a chocolate covered larabar. Besides the chocolate coating and the date filling the bar was quite flavorless. t’s not something I would call good, but not bad either. I think my verdict is still out the door on this one. I will admit it did fill me up though and gave me energy the rest of the afternoon.
My second new food is the Jicama Rice I experimented with for dinner.

I am intrigued by jicama and the fresh, crisp taste it has. I enjoyed my first experience with jicama and the Jicama Slaw I made last month. I have been dying to try jicama rice ever since.
To make the rice I simply peeled and cubed the jicama then pulsed it in my food processor until it resembled the texture of cous cous. I then dug in my fridge for other fresh ingredients to create a Jicama Rice Salad. So fresh and so good.

Jicama Rice Salad
Salad Ingredient
- Jicama Rice from a whole jicama
- Spinach
- Tomato
- Cucumber
- Broccoli
- 1/2 can of Chickpeas
- Grapes
- 1 oz Crushed Walnuts
Dressing
- 1/2 cup Stonyfield Plain Non-Fat Yogurt
- 3 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Honey
- 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
I chopped and tossed together all of the salad ingredients. In a separate bowl I combined the ingredients for the dressing before coating the salad with the dressing. The whole meal took less then 10 minutes to put together. It was fresh, light and perfect for a hot summer night!

On the side I had the last of my Mary Gone Crackers. It was a nice crunch added to the meal.

I dug into my chocolate stash for dessert and found some left over Easter candy to tame my sweet tooth.

The Reeses Peanut Butter Egg and Sour Patch Watermelons were the perfect way to end my day.
As for this show, it is not a good way to end the day with! It’s just soo bad! One of the girls on the show believes her Father died in a plane crash because God is punishing her for for having sex. Why am I still watching it?!?! Must change channel now!
I have spent my entire morning reading and rereading manuals on how to create marketing campaigns in our sales system at work. I am very much a visual learner and simply reading up on the process is not working. Unfortunately I have yet to get the WebEx training to work so, now I am trying to manually teach myself how to complete these tasks and I am getting no where.
Are you a visual learner? Or would you be just fine reading the instructions from a how to guide? If you are the ladder, I am extremely jealous of your talents!
Just as I am a visual learner, I am a visual eater. I.E. if it looks good I eat it.
My midmorning snack of Peanuts, Dried Cranberries and Cocoa Java Awesome Almonds both looked and tasted great.
So did my lunch!
I had bought fresh baked Italian Pitas from the Greenwise Bakery yesterday and could not wait to make a pita pizza with one for lunch today.
For the pizza base I combined hummus & tomato chutney then topped it with a slice of Swiss Cheese, Spinach, Broccoli and a Nak’d Quorn Cutlet.
The Italian Pita was the perfect quick pizza crust substitute and tasted amazing. It was a great idea.
On the side I had a small bowl of juicy cantaloupe.
I also could not resist the last of Jenna’s Super Charge Me cookies for dessert.
Now if you will excuse me I have to get back to trying to make sense of all this gibberish.
I could not wait to get out the door this morning and test out my brand new running shoes. There is something about running in new shoes that just makes that particular run so exciting.
As soon as I took off, I knew I had chosen the right shoes. Just as I remembered them in the sore, they were light, flexible and cushioned my feet perfectly. A clear winner in my book! Hopefully these babies will take me all the way through training for my next marathon in January.
After running in my new shoes I was excited about having breakfast in my new bowl I had purchased at Anthropology yesterday.
In the bowl I had
- 1/2 cup Annie’s Cocoa & Vanilla Bunnies Cereal
- 1/2 cup Missy’s Mix #1
- 1/4 cup Heartland Raisin Granola
- 1/2 Peach
- 1 Kiwi
- Stonyfield Plain Non-Fat Yogurt.
This was actually my first purchase from the Anthropology store and I have to say I am very pleased with it. Not only is the bowl adorable, but its nice and deep so when I mixed my cereal up I did not have to worry about it spilling over the edge.
I am so thankful I have a short week. I know I just came back from vacation, but I already feel like I could use another. I have already started laying outfits out that I want to wear on my cruise and prepping my beach accessories. I am just too excited!
Is it a short week for you as well? Any big 4th of July plans?
