I believe I am one of the few Americans out there that before today had never stepped foot in a Chipotle restaurant. I never really had an urge to try they’re Mexican fare, I’ve always been more of a “Welcome to Moes” girl myself. But lately I began to take notice of a couple of co-workers bi-weekly trips to the famous burrito chain and decided to tag along to see what all the fuss was about.

The verdict?…umm.. it was ok. Nothing I would write home about or anything, but maybe something to blog about J Let me give you my full in depth analysis of the Mexican grill.

I had heard good reviews about Chipotle and was excited to test it out for myself. I know their food can be high in calories, but am impressed by their fresh, all natural approach to their products. As in all burrito chains this was one of those order and add as you go places. I requested the Vegetarian Burrito Bowl which began with rice, black beans and peppers and onions before being past along.  Along the way down the line medium spicy salsa, corn salsa, cheese, lettuce and guacamole all topped my creation.

The end result.

What I liked:

  • The serving size was not over the top. I was able to finish the dish, only leaving some spare green peppers behind I didn’t care for.
  • The salsa had a good spice to it that left me guzzling my unsweet iced tea
  • The corn salsa was tasty
  • Lastly, the guacamole was probably the best part (unfortunately they give a nice size scoop which added tons of calories and I sadly ate the whole scoop

What I didn’t like:

  • The rice was simple white rice, nothing fun or healthy about it at all
  • Lack of selection in menu choices
  • Lack of veggies
  • The high amount of calories in the guac L
  • You have to pay extra for chips

Thank you for your time, Chipotle, but I think in the future I will stick to my Moes. They offer grilled veggies and tofu(!) , their rice is way better, I can usually get two meals out of their bowls ($$), chips automatically come with your order, you have the kiddie size option, their menu has a lot more choices, people always scream “Welcome to Moes!” when you enter and it reminds me of my freshmen year of college when my dorm was across the street from it.
